The grave of Sukarno
The first president Sukarno is famous and respected throughout the whole Indonesia. That’s why lots of people everyday visits his grave. Situated in the Blitar, it’s easy to go to the grave of Sukarno from Malang, it can take for about 2 hours by car.
There is parking area, where you can find a sculpture of Sukarno. Leave your car there and walk to the grave. By the way, you can take Becak, that costs from 2000 Rph to 30000 Rph (return ticket). Be ready for noisy sellers and lots of people who can take a photo with you (if you have white skin, these people called here “Bule”).
Near the grave there is an art gallery, where lots of pictures from different periods of Sukarno’s life are. Then go through the alley with columns on which there are posters with different parts from Sukarno’s speeches. Before the grave there are a huge gates, after them you are forbidden to smoke and have to keep calm.
Indonesians are really proud for their history and you have to respect it as well.

To continue exploring Sukarno’s life, don’t forget to visit his house that situated near the grave. It can be shock for you, because the house is not as luxurious as most European presidents have. It’s just a traditional Indonesian house with white walls. As a museum it has a collection of pictures of Sukarno and his wives. There you can also see his automobiles and special room for traditional musical instruments that still used for performances of wayang.
